How SharetoAI Works: User-Initiated AI Actions

SharetoAI turns a page into a set of useful, clearly labelled AI actions. Add the Gutenberg block or shortcode, choose the AI apps, write the prompt and optionally ask up to five questions before the handoff.

Two interaction modes

1. Direct action: the visitor chooses a labelled action and an AI app. SharetoAI opens that app with your prompt and the current page URL.

2. Question flow: a small form asks one to five questions first. The answers are mapped into your prompt before the visitor’s chosen AI app opens.

Best for: summaries, explainers, translations, checklists and technical walkthroughs.

How it works: You add a block or shortcode and define the action. When a visitor clicks, SharetoAI builds the request from your prompt and the current page URL, then hands it to the AI app the visitor selected.

Example: a long technical documentation page.

• Button label: “Explain this code”
• User clicks: The selected AI app opens with the page URL and the site owner’s request.
• Result: The AI can explain the function line by line. The output comes from the third-party AI app and should be reviewed like any AI answer.

Why use it? The page gives the visitor a specific next step instead of asking them to invent a prompt or copy the right context.

2. Question flow

Best for: Product and plan selection, trip planning, consultation preparation, onboarding and other situations where the answer depends on the visitor.

Ask one to five short questions first. SharetoAI inserts the answers into the fields you defined, then opens the selected AI app with the page context and completed request. One or two questions are usually enough.

How it works: The plugin displays your questions in a small dialog. The answers stay in the browser and are inserted into the prompt only when the visitor continues to an AI app.

Example: a solar company
A visitor wants to understand which system size is relevant to their household.

1. The visitor clicks an action such as “Help me understand my options”.
2. The dialog asks for annual electricity use and any other input the site owner chose.
3. SharetoAI combines those answers with the prompt and the current page URL.
4. The visitor’s chosen AI app opens and generates an answer using that context.
5. The AI output remains a third-party response, not a calculation or guarantee from the website.

The AI app can then explain options in relation to the visitor’s answers and the information published on the page. Any estimates still need the same review and qualification you would apply to other AI-generated content.

The value is the structured handoff: the visitor does not have to decide what to ask, which page details to copy or how to format the request. You own the action and context; the visitor owns the choice to continue in their AI app.

FAQ — AI Share Buttons

1) What does the plugin do?
It adds labelled AI actions to pages, posts and products. A visitor chooses an action and an AI app, optionally answers up to five questions, and SharetoAI hands over the prompt, answers and current page URL.

2) Does it store visitors’ answers?
No. The answers stay in the browser and are inserted into the prompt only when the visitor chooses an AI app. The plugin does not save those answers. Click analytics and UTM settings are separate and should be disclosed when enabled.

3) Do I need an API key?
No. SharetoAI opens the visitor’s own AI app through a share URL or deep link. Your website does not host the model or pay for its tokens.

4) Is this prompt injection?
No. Prompt injection is an attack in which untrusted content manipulates an AI system. SharetoAI does not bypass model rules, run an agent or execute model output. It creates a user-initiated handoff after the visitor deliberately clicks a labelled action. As with any AI workflow that uses web content, the AI answer can still be wrong or influenced by page content, so high-stakes output needs human review.

5) What data leaves the page?
When a visitor chooses an AI app, that provider receives the prompt, page URL and any answers the visitor supplied. Question answers are not stored by the plugin. Your privacy notice should cover the AI providers you enable, plus any analytics or UTM options you turn on.

6) Which AI apps are supported?
ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Claude, Perplexity and Grok support deep links. Gemini doesn’t yet support full deep-link prompts, so the plugin always copies the full prompt to the clipboard so users can paste it manually.
